Last night I finally watched The September Issue, which, I will admit, made me love Anna Wintour even more than I had before.
Say what you want about her, and really, what hasn’t been said before…but the woman is amazing. A bitch, obviously, but amazing not in-spite of that, but more-so because of it. What other woman on the planet has as much influence over a single industry as Anna has over fashion (Oprah, I suppose and her influence over the sheep of America, but that’s a whole different thing).   To watch people cower in her presence, to watch her decide what designers will make it, or “suggest” what their next line should be was just overwhelmingly impressive to me.The movie does little to dispel the image that Lauren Weisberger put forth in her thinly veiled “The Devil Wears Prada,” but I for one was happy about that.  I get tired of the notion that women always have to coddle kittens and placate other people’s feelings…and maybe that’s just because I’m a pretty big bitch myself.  In a man’s world…in “men’s industries” the traits that are abhorred on women are  respected.  Anna Wintour got where she is not by being the nicest person, but by being the best.
I’m pretty sure I am in awe of her.

Rachel McAdams at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night

Finally a picture of the back of this lovely dress, and of course there are a row of buttons to make it perfect!

She is flawless.  Always flawless.  Also, I might actually kill someone for this dress..and a place to wear it, probably, because I might be a wee bit overdressed for my lavish grocery store runs.

I would like to take a minute right now to profess my love for the designer of this rockabilly inspired line from Forever21.

Oh, I get it…Rockabilly by Forever21 is sure to be what you find in the dictionary right next to “dirty, disgusting sacrilege.”  And yet, I am finding it oh-so hard to care, because I am lusting after each and every one of these outfits.

Which is unfortunate, because I am on a clothes hiatus until after the first 6 weeks of my fitness program (and, I’m not going to lie, until I climb out of the financial hole that the Holidays left me in).

Want.  Want it.  Want it all.

Per usual, Halle Berry was my style star of last night.  When it comes to the red carpet, there is no one who I think does it better.  The silhouette-hugging was big last night, but let’s face it-not all of us, or even Tinseltown’s best, can pull that look off.
Also, the tendency at last night’s show seemed to be to try to pair this look with frills and drapes and poofs, and it was just far too much.  But my girl and her Kaufman Franco gown knew better.

Reason to love my family #34,231.   Yesterday we celebrated our Christmas with my brothers.  My brother Toby and sister-in-law Heather bought me this beautiful, beautiful Coach purse.  I’m not a crazy Coach purse kind of girl, but when I walked into the store last week I fell in love with this one.  It is exquisite.  And, being the crazy, wonderful woman that she is, my sister-in-law saw the smaller Coach purse, which she thought matched it really well. and bought that for me too.  To use as a make-up bag.
Since my parents had given me the Kindle for Christmas and I can’t leave home without that, and I had given myself a new amazing pair of Versace sunglasses for Christmas, and the case for those is huge, I needed the bigger bag.  So, see?  It was practical.
I am spoiled, and there is just no part of me what-so-ever that is going to complain about that.

The story of Audrey Hepburn’s never-worn wedding gown, up for auction next week at Sotheby’s, is so lovely:

Made by the Roman Fontana sisters in 1952, before she broke of an engagement to an English aristocrat, the budding star characteristically asked the designers to give the dress away to “the most beautiful, poor Italian girl you can find.” Worn by a peasant girl, who became a farmer’s wife, the dress lay wrapped in tissue paper for four decades before being offered for sale at this auction.

PS: Doesn’t she look stunning?
